I screwed a 2 by 10 into the wall using 4 inch screws. If they are near a mortar line or seam in the concrete move the bracket slightly. Hold a mounting bracket against the wall so that the top is even with the shelf line at the point you marked for a bracket. Then screwed another 2 x 10 to that so i had about 3 inches combined width before the wall.
