Start by trying to push the lock button. Spray the lock with lubricant to remove dirt and dust. That can cause the pins to get stuck in a partially raised position and prevent the plug from turning. Flip the key and open the door.

It will come in two pieces. When a door latch doesn t click into position it usually means the latch and the strike plate are out of alignment. A door knob lock button stuck has a few quick fixes that you can try out. Leave the striker bolt in place.

Tighten the hinge screws and then try adjusting the strike plate by loosening its screws and shifting it slightly. Release the button quickly try sliding your finger off the button so the pressure is maintained up until the precise moment of release with no backing off. Outdoor locks can collect a lot of dirt and dust inside the lock cylinder. Sometimes dust and dirt collect inside the lock cylinder.

Push and hold the button in. If that is the problem it is easy to fix. In most cases a spritz of dry lubricant will be sufficient to free up the plug and allow you to open your door. Lubricate the inside of the mechanism if the lock still does not function.

Repairs range from making minor latch adjustments to repositioning the door. It should have at least a one inch throw and on the strike side there should be a security plate with screws at least three inches long. Warping if the door cannot physically lock due to the frame or door being warped an adjustment of the strike plate could rectify the problem without the need of a new lock. Key will not work if you ve had a new spare key cut recently it could be a poorly cut key causing the problem.

Slide the key in the lock and tap lightly on the key to lubricate the inside of the lock. Spray the door key with a graphite based lubricant. You can spray a little dry lubricant in the lock to free up the plug so you can open the door.
