O Ring Chain Lube Motorcycle

This chain has little o rings between the link plates and rollers of the chain that are used to keep grease and lube inside of your chain while keeping dirt out.

Sprays on white so you can see it and contains a special wear reducing lubricant with excellent adhesion for all motorcycle chains especially x ring and o ring. It works well for both chains because these are made with similar polymers and have similar lubrication needs. Most modern motorcycle chains are sealed with o rings or x rings some other fancy rubbery ring to keep grease inside the pins. O ring or x ring chains use small seals around the chain s rollers to hold lubricant in place. Wire brushes and petrol are the enemy of motorcycle chains don t use them. After a long ride or a ride in pouring rain it s a good idea to squirt a bit of chain lube onto the chain to keep it lubricated.

You either have an x z or o ring chain type and it s important to use that information when making a decision. Of course the lube eventually dissipates and requires added lubrication but generally offers a longer lasting coating preventing premature wear as you power through mud sand and water which helps explain why the off road crowd prefers the o ring chain. For o ring chains the blue label chain lube without needing that to a degree as required before we could make it a little thinner coat make it much more adhesive and yet still be able to. While these chains require less upkeep and tend to not need to be replaced as often they do require some care.

These kinds of heavy duty chains are more expensive than open chains but last much longer and stretch. The o ring is sealed and helps keep the pins lubed but the plates also need regular lubing or they ll oxidise stick and wear faster. O ring chains also stretch less and last far longer than the standard chain.
